Ignite Basketball Association (IBA)
Ignite Basketball Association (IBA) is a community and school-based outreach program that offers a safe, constructive alternative for area youth in grades 6, 7 and 8.
The goal is to strengthen participants' character, self-esteem and discipline so they are better equipped and prepared for the challenges of their teen years and beyond.
The objective is to form a youth basketball program for the target population within the central urban neighborhood of Spokane's School District No. 81. While basketball is the foundation of this league, the motivational workshops and recreational activity are also crucial elements.
- IBA has a need for volunteer coaches. This is a great way to spend a few hours a week making a difference in kids' lives while having fun. If you would like to coach a team, we would love to have you. Contact Chad Smith via email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
- The Eric Fox Memorial Fund has been set up to benefit the Ignite Basket Association, as follows:
In July 2014, the Fox family suffered a tremendous loss in losing husband and father, Eric. It was the family's desire to set up a fund to benefit the Ignite Basketball Association in Eric's memory. Fox was a Gonzaga University alumnus, who was a control engineer and co-owner at Applied Solutions in Spokane. He was active in the lives of his boys and coached both youth basketball and baseball. Additionally, Fox refereed high school basketball games in the area for 20 years and was a member of the Washington Officials Association.
Eric left behind a family, a love for the game of basketball, and a legacy of community contribution. Thus, the Fox family started the Eric Fox Memorial Fund, which is to benefit the Ignite Basketball Association, a community and school-based outreach program of Spokane Hoopfest and AAU Basketball that offers a safe, constructive alternative for area youth. Until this point the league has been unable to fund paychecks for the referees who work on behalf of Ignite Basketball; but, the Fox fund will make this possible. Any additional monies will also benefit the larger Ignite Basketball organization.
To Donate to the Eric Fox Memorial Fund, please make out a check to Spokane Hoopfest and send it to P.O. Box 599, Spokane, WA 99210, or contact the office at (509) 624-2414.
This league will run October 27 through November 21, 2015. Games are played on Saturdays and begin November 7. Weekly workshops will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday nights, with games scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. One-hour practices are also held during the week at local middle schools.
